Day 42: Tehachapi
I stayed at a Best Western. The showers and laundry are *GLORIOUS*!
Well… There’s a fire ahead. I *can* hike another 100 miles-ish to Walker pass, but my guess is that there isn’t enough infrastructure around there to handle all the hikers piling up. Plus I’m not sure there is any way to *get* to Kennedy Meadows right now — So, I’m going to bounce forwards a few hundred miles to Mammoth Lakes, go for a day hike with a friend, and then hopefully head south through the Sierra’s backwards. Never considered this before, so it’ll be an interesting challenge. On the other hand, I might decide the high Sierra’s still have too much snow, and hike North instead and swing around to complete them later.
The trail Angel that picked me up from the trail yesterday and got me in to Tehachapi lent us her vehicle to run errands for a few hours and then bought a ridiculous amount of food for the hikers, and got four of us at her house to do food prep. We made 32 patties, tons of water melon, corn on the cob, home made macaroni, hot dogs, brats, and more fixings than you could believe. The blue-cheese Jalapeno burgers were to die for! It ended up being an amazing spread!
Thank you Momma Bear!
