Day 40: 100 degree heat

Day 40: 100 degree heat

Start: 524.4 aqua duct side camp
End: 541.55 Tylerhorse Canyon
Spent half the night with my tent flopping on me. A stake pulled up, and with the winds being so brutal and the ground too hard to take the stakes I just let it be. I got going around 6:45 and it was a race to beat the heat to the next water source 10 miles away. Made it around 10:30 and proceeded to hide under a bridge half passed out in the 100 degree heat until 4:45.
Why was I looking forward to the Mojave? This place is brutal.
I loaded up 3.5 liters of water and hiked another 7 miles to the next water source and my (cowboy) camp spot. I’m too tired to dick around with pitching the tent and rock hard ground and gusty winds, so tyvek, rocks, pad, pillow, and bag are my home tonight.
24 miles to Tehachapi. Would love to make it in one day. No water between here and there. Fully loaded my bottles. Good night.

The Mojave Desert can be brutal, especially during the summer months. You will soon be entering the paradise of the Sierras! Forge ahead! There is treasure awaiting you. Happy Trails!!!👣

Treasure assuming I can get there. There is a big fire in the way, KM might be difficult to reach. :(
