Day -1: You can only be so prepared.
Not sure where to start. Not used to being so prepared. The only thing I can think of that I could have done is transfer photos from my phone to laptop so I can delete them. This is the list of stuff I worked on yesterday.
Xxxx. Bills
Xxxx. Beard trim?
Becu
Xxxx. Smart water
Xxxx. Twister
Download water report
Crocs
Xxxx. Battery tender
Xxxx. Fill truck, Sta-bil.
In addition I had lunch with Aunt Melissa, sent my parents $500, paid taxes, mailed mom two envelopes with gear in them, finished washing and folding every piece of laundry I own, rotate and make the bed with clean sheets, etc. I am sure there was more…

Airport art
Put a sheet over the made bed so it doesn’t accumulate five months of dust.
Doctors orders — no starches. (Sad hungry puppy dog face!)
Two photos. Not sure why this program rotates one wrong and the other right. Second photo was taken portrait, first was landscape… Well I like landscape better anyway.
(shirt reads “my other backpack is a flextrek 37,000,000,000,000 whipsnake!” … Google it)

Then I went and had dinner and drinks with KC and her fiancé. Way cute couple! Wedding Sept 24… I’m definitely skipping off trail if needed to attend that sucker! (It might be polite to pre-eat… Most weddings aren’t set up to feed hiker-trash who will eat 10k calories in a day… 🙂
Granted, you play you pay. I paid the piper by staying up till three to pack.
Right now I feel vulnerable because I left my pack in the care of the airlines… I am hosed if it doesn’t show up in San Diego.
I stopped by work on the way to the airport. Snagged some ear plugs and said farewell. I wonder what it is going to be like to drive the big rigs after five months of cold turkey. I think I’ll ask for a day or two of riding with a trainer when I get back.
Aunt Melissa
Still time to trim the beard! HeHe.
Charlie Hough
I’ll think about it… Nahhhh!

Thank you Seester Buzz!
Meline McWhirter
Wishing you all the best on your epic journey my friend!
Charlie Hough
Thank you Meline! Where are you in Cali, I’m thinking possible trail magic (and drinks!) at some point?
Chris Zombro
Good luck and keep us wannabe thru hikers updated.
Charlie Hough
You know it!
Kim Ritchie
how do you send your pack on the airline without everything getting caught in some mechanical thing?
Charlie Hough
The airlines had some heavy clear sacks. I put my backpack in it, and twist-tied the opening shut.
Cousin Andrew
For that photo backup you meant to do. There is an Amazon Photo app that, with your Amazon Prime membership, will allow you to store unlimited photos.
Good luck on the trail!
Stay safe.
Charlie Hough
Oh! Awesome! Thank you.
